About

My name is Amelie. I was born in Florida on January 15, 1987 — which makes me twenty four years old. I am a former ex-pat, as my family moved to Asia when I was a kid. I miss it terribly and would move back in a heartbeat.

I love living near water. In my whole life, I've never been more than an hour's drive from a major body of water — usually an ocean. I decide which way is east based on which direction the water is (because water, clearly, is always east!). Even though I hate going to the beach when the sun is beating down (I am horribly pale and burn very easily), I can't imagine not having the opportunity to simply drive a short distance to be there. I also love being in the water, be it either swimming or body surfing. Not only is it good exercise, but I feel so secure in the water. I can be alone with my thoughts and just exist.

I graduated from college in spring 2010 with my bachelor's degree in history, with minors in mass communication and education. I am currently a law student, going to school in the Mid-Atlantic. Going to law school was one of the best choices I have made in my life. I love my classes, I love my friends here, and I love learning about the law and how to help people (…except for contracts, which makes my head hurt most of the time). When I grow up (ha!), I want to work somewhere that I can actually make a difference in someone's life — not a big law firm. I love the idea of working for the government in some capacity.

When I'm not buried under reading for school, I love movies and television. The best way to spend a Saturday (in my opinion) is watching chick flicks with predicable endings or tv on dvd. That's my favorite way to unwind from a long week in law school. I love a good love story, even when the ending is clear at the beginning. I'm just a total sap like that. =)

If I had the time, I would definitely read for pleasure more often. I love to read novels where I can lose myself in the world the author creates. Some of my favorites include Something Borrowed, Insatiable, The Constant Princess, and so many more. My dream house includes a room I can devote solely to books, with big comfy couches and a big, beautiful window looking out onto a nice view — preferably of the water.

Music is one of my biggest passions. I've been singing since I was a little kid and wish I had an outlet here to do so. I can listen to almost any kind of music and my favorite songs at any given moment tend to be very eclectic. I count classical music and alternative rock among my favorite genres, although at the moment I'm loving a cappella again (thank you, Sing Off!). Music can pump me up, calm me down, help me focus on my schoolwork, or relax away my worries. I've always got some song stuck in my head, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I'm also a big sports nut. I love American football, both college and professional. Apparently one of my first words was "Steeler" and I learned how to signal a touchdown before I could walk. Obviously, the Pittsburgh Steelers are my pro team, while I love the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Boise State Broncos on the college side. I'm also a huge hockey fan. I could probably watch hockey every night and not get sick of it. I love the Calgary Flames — even though I never get to see them in person because I live on the East Coast — and never miss their games. I have a bit of a soft spot in my heart for goalies, and Miikka Kiprusoff (the Flames goalie!) would be my absolute favorite player — followed by a number of other Flames players.
